Holiday Park Neighborhood Association (NHPNA) Welcome to Albuquerque's
New Holiday Park Neighborhood AssociationGreetings from the New Holiday
Park Neighborhood Association
National Night Out Contest About fifty people joined NHPNA leaders at SY Jackson to further community spirit, strengthen neighborhood ties and enjoy an evening of fun at this year's National Night Out. With festive Caribbean music echoing in the cool summer night, kids played on playground equipment, local skaters engaged in a friendly "skate-off" competition, and political leaders and candidates for local and state offices stopped by to greet area residents. Everyone had a wonderful time; people won some very nice prizes (see Business Sponsors); dinner was delicious -- but the event was cut short around 7:30pm, by one of the largest downpours of the year. All in all, it was a night of fun for all.

Political Attendees: We would like to thank Connie Beimer, representing Bill Richardson for Governor, Diane Denish, Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor, and Janet Saiers, candidate for Bernalillo County Commissioner for their support of this neighborhood event. In addition, we would like to extend a special thanks to District 8 City Councilor, Greg Payne, for attending and adding his continued support to our neighborhood. We would also like to thank APD for sending a representative to our gathering. Thanks as well to Stephani Winklepleck, Office of Neighborhood Coordination, for her efforts to make this an professional and fun event.

Business Sponsors: We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the businesses who contributed to this effort. The NHPNA ran a raffle to help raise money for the neighborhood fund. Please take a moment to thank the following supporters: Title Wave Books, Roly Poly sandwich shop, Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza, Mable Slab Creamery, Century Rio Theaters, Pet & Vet Market and artist Gerald Larribas of GLarri entertainment. We would like to again thank Evan Schuster, REMAX Alliance Realtors, for sponsoring the flier announcing this event.

Event Schedule:

As listed, this is a contest. There are four categories. Specifically:

2. $250 will be awarded to the Neighborhood Association with the largest number of blocks, within their association boundaries, participating. (Since some associations cover larger geographic boundaries, this will be calculated on a per capita basis. 2000 Census data will be used for boundary purposes).

3. $250 will be given to the Neighborhood Association with the overall largest number of participants. If you are planning large events, please call Don Newton at 924-3914 regarding special event permits, etc.

4. $250 will be awarded to the Neighborhood Association that recruits the largest number of individual blocks, signed up by at least one resident of that block, to start or revitalize a Neighborhood Watch Program on that block.

Rules for the 2002 National Night Out Contest
Here's how it works:

1. Each block holding a National Night Out event or associations holding larger neighborhood events need to register for the event. [NHPNA registered 7/16/02]

2. Following National Night Out, the completed official attendance and Neighborhood Watch start up/revitalization sign-up forms, obtained from the Office of Neighborhood Coordination, must be submitted by the Neighborhood Association Board to the Office of Neighborhood Coordination by MAIL OR FAX/ 924-3913 no later than FRIDAY, AUGUST 23, 2002 in order to be considered for the competition.

3. Your sign-up/sign-in forms from individual/block and larger neighborhood events will not be considered for the competition unless they are official forms provided by the Office of Neighborhood Coordination and unless you have registered (on-line or by phone) prior to Tuesday, July 30, 2002 with Office of Neighborhood Coordination.

4. A tabulation of the largest number of residential youth/children grandchildren, 18 years old or younger, attending events/block parties held in neighborhood associations will be done by percentage of total population within the neighborhood association boundaries. The neighborhood with the highest percentage of neighborhood youth/children/grandchildren attendees will determine the winner. Neighborhood Associations participating in the "largest number of blocks participating within the association category" will be done on a per capita basis. Associations/ residents signing up to start or revitalize a Neighborhood Watch on their block, will be determined by the Association with the largest number of individual blocks signed up for, by at least one person, will be the winner.

5. The neighborhood residential addresses of youth/children/grandchildren must be verified with a check mark before submitting your sign-in forms for contest consideration. Grandchildren attending, who do not live in the neighborhood, should use the address of grandparents living in the neighborhood.

6. The winners, in all divisions of the contest, must certify that their documents are complete and accurate. The winners will be announced in the September/October Neighborhood News. Awards will be presented at the Albuquerque Block Captains Association Conference on October 19, 2002, 1:00 p.m. at the Albuquerque Police Academy, 5412 Second Street NW.
